Peut-on classer en fantasy ce roman d’un monde ancien, habité par des « dieux » animistes plus ou moins grands, qui auraient succédé à d’Anciens Dieux dignes de mondes lovecraftiens ? Où les pouvoirs de ces dieux reposent sur l’énergie que leur fournissent prières et sacrifices et où les dits dieux doivent gérer leur dépense d’énergie et ne peuvent réaliser leur volonté que de la façon la moins coûteuse possible ?
